My Pookie Bear

For sunny, cloudy and in-between days

My best friend is with me,

Always right here

He’s cuddly and soft

And named Pookie Bear

Some days feel sunny,

With laughter and play

Giggles and games

That last through the day

Some days feel different,

Like clouds moving slow

And my grownup has feelings

I don’t always know

Some days their feelings

Are tangled and loud,

Like big stormy thoughts

Behind a dark cloud

Some days they smile,

Some days they rest,

Some days just trying

Is already their best

My Pookie Bear listens

He stays very near,

“You can tell me your feelings,

I’m always right here”

Sometimes I worry

With thoughts in my head,

“Did I do something wrong?”

I often have said

Pookie Bear whispers,

Gentle and slow

“You are never the reason,

I want you to know”

Grown-ups have feelings,

Big ones and small

Sometimes they need

A little more help, that’s all”

Their helpers and doctors

Help them get through,

Just like we all

Need help sometimes too

Then we take a deep breath,

And let it out slow

With Pookie Bear close,

My calm starts to grow

“Your feelings are real,

They matter too”

And Pookie Bear reminds me

Of all I can do

I can run

I can play

I can laugh

I can sing

I can dance

I can build

I can dream anything

No matter the storms

Or clouds up above,

Pookie Bear reminds me

I am always loved
